Will GTA 6 come to the PS6? It is one of the most-searched questions in gaming right now, and most pages answer it with hype instead of facts. This site does the opposite. We keep a hard line between what Rockstar Games has actually confirmed and what is still a leak or rumour, so you get one trustworthy answer instead of clickbait. The countdown and fact tracker above show that line at a glance: amber means confirmed by Rockstar, cyan means leak or rumour, unverified.

Here is the short version. GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, releasing on 19 November 2026. That date and those platforms come straight from Rockstar. The PlayStation 6 has not been announced by Sony, which means a "GTA 6 on PS6" version is widely expected but not confirmed by anyone. Everything below is sorted into those two buckets and kept there on purpose.

What Rockstar has actually confirmed

These are the hard facts. Each one has been shown directly by Rockstar Games in official trailers, posts or press material, so we tag them confirmed.

  • GTA 6 releases on 19 November 2026. Rockstar set this date publicly. Confirmed
  • It launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These are the only two platforms Rockstar has confirmed at launch. Confirmed
  • There is no PS4 or Xbox One version. GTA 6 is a current-gen-only title; last-gen consoles are not supported. Confirmed
  • The game is set in the state of Leonida, with Vice City at its heart. A modern, Florida-inspired open world. Confirmed
  • The protagonists are Lucia and Jason. Rockstar introduced the pair in the official trailers. Confirmed

A PC release is widely expected to follow, as it did for GTA 5, but Rockstar has not confirmed a PC date, so we do not treat one as fact.

Will GTA 6 come to PS6?

Almost certainly yes, eventually, but nobody can confirm it yet, because the PS6 itself has not been announced. Sony has not revealed a PlayStation 6, so there is no official word from Sony or Rockstar about a GTA 6 PS6 edition. Treat every "GTA 6 is coming to PS6" headline as expectation, not fact. Leak / rumour

The reason the expectation is so strong is precedent. GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, came to PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, and then arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2022, the better part of a decade later. Rockstar has a long history of bringing Grand Theft Auto forward to new hardware. Given GTA 6's expected lifespan, a next-gen version landing on a future PlayStation is a reasonable bet. But "reasonable bet" is not the same as confirmed, and we will not pretend otherwise. Read the full case on the Will GTA 6 come to PS6? page.

Everything about the PS6 is a rumour right now

Because Sony has announced nothing, every PS6 detail in circulation is unverified. That includes the release window, the specs, the price, backward compatibility and the rumoured handheld. We cover them all, because people search for them, but each is clearly tagged and dated as a leak.

  • PS6 release date. Industry reports and leaks point at a 2027 to 2028 window, with some chatter about memory-supply delays. None of it is official. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour See PS6 release date.
  • PS6 specs. Leaks mention a codename of "Orion", a Zen 6 CPU, RDNA 5 graphics, PSSR 2.0 upscaling and DDR7 memory. These are leak figures, not a spec sheet. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour See PS6 specs.
  • PS6 price. Figures from roughly $500 to $950 have circulated, tied to manufacturing-cost leaks and tariff scenarios. All unconfirmed. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour See PS6 price.
  • Backward compatibility. Leaked documents suggest the PS6 would play PS5 games, which would let you play your GTA 6 PS5 copy on it, but Sony has confirmed nothing. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour See PS6 backward compatibility.
  • PS6 handheld. A portable PlayStation, rumoured codename "Project Canis", appears in leaks. Whether a demanding game like GTA 6 could run on it is pure speculation. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour See PS6 handheld.

We never attribute any of these to Rockstar or Sony as confirmed. If a claim is not in the confirmed list above, assume it is a rumour.

PS6 vs PS5: what changes for GTA 6

On PS5, GTA 6 is built to a known target: the confirmed launch hardware. The PS5 Pro adds extra GPU power and PSSR upscaling, which typically helps games hit higher framerates or sharper image quality, though Rockstar has not published GTA 6's exact performance numbers. A rumoured PS6 could, in theory, push further, but since the PS6 is unannounced, any PS6-versus-PS5 comparison for GTA 6 is a projection, not a benchmark. We lay out the confirmed PS5 side against the speculative PS6 side, with no invented numbers, on GTA 6 PS6 vs PS5.

There is also the upgrade question. GTA 5 gave players a free PS4-to-PS5 next-gen upgrade path. Whether GTA 6 will offer a similar PS5-to-PS6 upgrade or enhanced edition is unknown, because no PS6 and no upgrade policy exist yet. We explain the GTA 5 precedent and what it might mean on GTA 6 PS5 to PS6 upgrade.

Should you wait for PS6 or buy a PS5 now?

If you want to play GTA 6 on 19 November 2026, you need a PS5 or PS5 Pro (or an Xbox Series X|S), full stop, because the PS6 will not exist at launch. Waiting for a PS6 means waiting an unknown amount of time, past a date that is already confirmed, for hardware Sony has not announced. For many people the practical answer is to buy in now and enjoy the game on day one. If you are weighing a standard PS5 against a PS5 Pro, or genuinely considering holding out, our PS5 Pro or wait for PS6 decision guide walks through each path, and the tracker above remembers your choice across the site.

Why trust this site

We are an independent fan resource, not Rockstar or Sony. That independence is exactly why we are careful. Our whole value is keeping confirmed facts and rumours apart, with source dates on the speculative claims, so you are never misled into buying or waiting based on something that was never confirmed. When Sony finally announces the PS6, or Rockstar confirms a GTA 6 PS6 version, we will move those items from the cyan rumour column to the amber confirmed column, with the date, and update these guides to match. Until then, the honest answer to "is GTA 6 coming to PS6?" is: expected, not confirmed.
